Could this have been Eddie Van
Halens guitar? Well, we cant say for sure, but it has a story attached to it that certainly makes us wonder.
My friend Doug who lives near Glasgow collects all manner of
EVH guitars and has what is easily the largest collection in the UK, and maybe even Europe. So when he bought this guitar from a vendor in the USA, who for the purpose of this blog shall remain anonymous, Doug was concerned to see a serial number that did not match any of the guitars he already owned or any of the other models he was aware of. So, Doug contacted Ernie Ball and asked if they thought the instrument could be a fake. Their response was a revelation, Ernie Ball seemed frantic about the guitar and were pressurising Doug to reveal its source, stating that is was a none retail model that had been made as a special order. So we now ask ourselves, who would instigate a special order? And who would the order be for? And why the reaction from Ernie Ball?
It could be that this guitar was part of the development of the
EVH Wolfgang series, or it was a gift from
EVH to someone else? Or, was it actually Eddie's guitar and when he split from his tech, the guitar was then "moved on" so to speak, and has since fallen into the hands of a specialist dealer? We will never know for sure. But there was certainly something about this guitar that got Ernie Ball very excited.
